How LASIK Works
LASIK, or laser-assisted in-situ keratomileusis, is much more well-known than EVO ICL. This FDA-approved laser eye surgery reshapes your cornea to correct your vision, thereby making it possible for you to see without the need for glasses or contacts.
LASIK is recommended to treat patients who are diagnosed with myopia (nearsightedness), hyperopia (farsightedness), or astigmatism (blurry or distorted vision).
There are two steps to the LASIK treatment. Your surgeon will begin by using a laser to create a transparent corneal flap. This happens quickly, in around six seconds.
Your surgeon will then use a separate laser to reconstruct your cornea to correct your eyesight. The corneal flap returns to its normal place and forms a natural bandage once the treatment is complete. The anesthetic eye drops used during the procedure will prevent any problems with discomfort or pain.
What is EVO ICL?
An "Implantable Collamer Lens," or ICL, is a super slim lens implanted in the eye to address vision defects. EVO ICL, unlike LASIK, PRK, and other therapies, does not include the removal of the corneal tissue, making it suitable for patients with thin corneas.
The replacement lens is analogous to a permanent contact lens. It is detachable, modifiable, and increases daylight and nighttime visibility. The process lasts between 20 and 30 minutes and is completely painless.
The EVO ICL procedure has evolved through time, as have the majority of surgical treatments. Available since 2005, the IVO treatment process initially corrected only myopia. Now it is used to repair myopia and astigmatism for vision correction.
The recovery time for LASIK and EVO ICL surgery is frequently short, which is encouraging to anyone leading a busy life. In fact, most surgery patients are able to resume normal activities a few days following treatment. However, you do have to avoid excessive exercise for one week and swimming for several weeks after the surgery.
Additional Aspects to Consider
Ideal EVO ICL candidates are between 21 and 45 years old and have had a stable prescription for at least a year.
To receive LASIK treatment, you must be at least 18 years old, have had a stable prescription for at least one year, be in good general health, and have no history of eye disease to be eligible.
Because it is less invasive and more cost-effective, LASIK is typically the treatment of choice for suitable applicants.
The Refractive Surgery Council reports that less than one percent of LASIK patients experience complications. Side effects may include dry eyes, light sensitivity, and halos, which are typically temporary.
