7 Commonly Asked Lasik Eye Surgery Questions

7-commonly-asked-lasik-eye-surgery-questions

1. Does Lasik hurt?

Dr. Cohen takes every effort to make sure his patients are completely comfortable before the Lasik surgery begins.  Patients are given a sedative and then topical numbing drops are applied to the eye.  Some patients report feeling a light pressure- but overall, most people experience very little to no discomfort at all.

2. Can you go blind from Lasik?

To date, there have been no reported cases of total loss of vision from a Lasik procedure. The advanced laser technology includes safety features such as a tracking device to detect even the slightest movement.  If any movement is sensed, the laser will stop momentarily and then reset itself.  Additionally, Dr. Cohen is controlling all variables during the treatment- which takes less than a 1 minute to complete.  (Stat from UCLA STEIN EYE Institute)

3.  How long does Lasik last?

Distance vision results will remain corrected indefinitely- the only reduction would be if the patent were to develop cataracts, which is more common later in life.

Results for reading vision should remain, however patients might need a touch up once they reach middle age.  It is important to note that only 5% of Dr. Cohen’s patients have ever needed to come back for a touch up procedure.

4. Would Lasik help me if I only need reading glasses?

Lasik for reading can be quite beneficial for improving your overall daily life.  Dr. Cohen will assess your vision and let you know if you are a good candidate for the procedure during your complimentary Lasik evaluation.

5.  What about Lasik for astigmatism?

Patients with astigmatism often think that they may not be a good candidate for Lasik, but that is not true!  During the complimentary Lasik evaluation and exam, Dr. Cohen will evaluate how Lasik surgery can benefit you.

6. How much does Lasik eye surgery cost?

We make it affordable, by offering several financing options with low monthly payments or zero interest programs to accommodate every budget.  Dr. Cohen will discuss what procedure will be best for you during your complimentary Lasik evaluation.  Afterwards, you will meet with a Lasik coordinator to discuss the procedure cost and your Lasik financing options.

7. How old do you have to be to get Lasik?

During your developmental years, your eyes change more frequently.  It’s usually not until early adulthood that your prescription becomes more stable.  Because of this, we require that patients are at least 18-years-old with a stable prescription for at least one year.
